Models, policies and an ITC infrastructure to reduce household energy demand and to promote smart energy use in smart cities

Objective

The objective of the BIGS project is to increase awareness of energy and understand citizen behaviour across countries. This is the fundamental step to create policies for improving citizens’ behaviour and increasing electric infrastructure efficiency, which is the second key objective of BIGS. Finally, this can only be achieved with an appropriate supporting ICT infrastructure that will be built as an enabling element of the project. The information collected and fed back to the citizen is then used to derive user models and to steer public behaviour. The ICT infrastructure is also the means for implementing the policies in a personalised, real-time and culturally tailored way.
