Fuzzy morphology and its applications to spatial reasoning

The algebraic framework of mathematical morphology (complete lattices, adjunctions) endows it with strong properties and allows for multiple extensions. In particular extensions to fuzzy sets theory of the main morphological operations can be proposed while preserving all properties of these operators. These extensions have numerous applications, and we will present some of them for defining spatial relations and use them in spatial reasoning and model-based object recognition in images. Illustrations in brain imaging will be presented.
