Prof.dr.ir. Paris Avgeriou holds the chair of Software Engineering, at the Department of Mathematics and Computing Science, University of Groningen, the Netherlands. He is the head of the Software Engineering and Architecture (SEARCH) research group since September 2006. He received a diploma (M.Sc.) in Electrical and Computer Engineering (1999), as well as a Ph.D. in Software Engineering (2003) from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Greece. He has worked as a Senior Researcher at the Fraunhofer IPSI, Darmstadt, Germany (2005), and the Laboratory for Advanced Software Systems, University of Luxembourg (2004), under the Fellowship Programme of ERCIM, as a visiting Lecturer at the Department of Computer Science (2003), University of Cyprus, and as a research and teaching assistant at NTUA (1999 – 2002). He has been leading a number of research projects on software architecture, that are directly related to the European industry of Software-intensive systems. He has been co-organizing international workshops in conferences such as ICSE, ECOOP, ICSR, UML, ACM SAC and editing special issues for journals like IEEE Software. He is in the editorial board of Springer TPLOP. He is a member of IEEE, ERCIM, Hillside Europe and acts as a PC member and reviewer for several conferences and journals. He has received awards and distinctions for both teaching and research and has published more than 80 articles in peer-reviewed international journals, conference proceedings and books. His research interests concern the area of software architecture, with a strong emphasis on architecture modeling, knowledge, evolution and patterns.
