Abstract

Digital image processing is the process of manipulating images by computer with the purpose of improving image quality or extracting useful information. This chapter collects basic concepts and terminology necessary to understand the fundamentals of the field. Topics discussed are: classification of operation s in image processing, digitisation, linear filtering, enhancement, restoration, mathematical morphology, segmentation, representation, description and measurement.
