Deb-packaging: multiple packages from the same source

I need to install magma on a number of hosts. This is a highly specialistic Mathematics package, and it's quite large. It is also well protected with license files, and the full version I will be installing can only be downloaded with proper keys obtained from the administrators. This is not a package I would like to put on the NFS server for anyone to read across the entire university. Instead, I'm going to try to package it in .deb-format, and distribute it only to the people that will use it. (In the process, I'll pick up some packaging skills.)
