Medical Data Physicalization
headed by Dr. Renata Raidou
Our recent research within the field of data physicalization (or physical visualization) revolves around exploring new, unconventional approaches that involve physical models instead of on-screen visualizations—in particular, for anatomical edutainment (education and entertainment) and patient communication. The basic concept behind physicalization is that physical interaction with the data, using all our senses, can provide new insights and different understanding. Within the biomedical domain, data physicalization has not gone beyond the typical (e.g., 3D printed) anatomical models. We are investigating new physicalization approaches and materials within an anatomical edutainment context for the democratization of knowledge—making it easily, affordably, and readily accessible to everyone.
